St James’ is a family church which endeavours to reach out to people of all ages, providing age- or gender- specific activities, as well as those for the whole family to join in together.  You’ll find on the drop down menu information about various groups.  There is always more going on than you can find here so please ask if you have a specific request.

Families with young children

Families with young children are welcome at St James’ Church.  A small carpeted crèche area for under 2s is provided in the church; this is unsupervised.  Baby changing facilities are provided in the base of the tower.  Please park your buggy inside church.

First Steps meets on a Tuesday and Tots Praise on a Thursday (follow the link above for more details).

Children’s Groups

Junior Church takes place during the 11 am service on a Sunday morning Children start at the Parish Centre at 11am and join their parents around noon for the last part of Sunday worship together.  Kings Kids after school club on a Monday in Hemingford School, and Blaze on a Thursday in the Parish Centre.

Youth Groups and activities

Younger Youth meet on a Sunday morning at 11 am.  Older youth meet at the 19 St Ives Road every other Monday evening at 8pm. Younger youth meet at Thrive on Tuesdays from 7.30-9 pm in the Parish Centre.  Social activities are arranged from time to time.  Please see the Facebook page.

Women’s Groups

There is a midweek Bible study group which meets in the Parish Centre on Wednesday mornings at 10am during term-time.  A creche is provided in the same venue for pre-school children.

Men’s Group

Meets on a Thursday evening at the home of Mark Latimer.  Dad’s (with Children) Breakfast meets on the 3rd Saturday each month in the Parish Centre.  Other activities including curry nights, hill walking and  water-borne are arranged from time to time.

Prayer Groups

There are daily meetings for Morning Prayer at 8am in St James’ Church on Monday and Wednesday, and St Margaret’s on Tuesday and Thursday for 30 mins.  There is an informal meeting for prayer on Friday evening at 7pm for an hour

Bible Study Groups

Small groups meet for Bible study and discipleship at different times during the week in the homes of members of the church family and in the Parish Centre during the daytime and the evening.  Please email Rosie if you would like to join one.

Events for our senior citizens, including lunches

Pleasant Hour meets in the Parish Centre on first and third Wednesday afternoons at 2.30 pm.
Parish Lunches for our senior citizens are held in the Parish Centre on a monthly basis.  Please contact the Parish Office if you would like and invitation to the next lunch or speak with Joanne at the Parish Centre reception (Wed-Fri).

Home visits and Home Communion

If you know someone who is unwell or would appreciate a home visit by a member of the ministry team

If you or some one you know is unable to attend church for communion and would like it taken to them please email Revd Judith Bolton and either the vicar or a lay minister will contact you to make an arrangement.
