Mark 1:40-45 In this fourth in the series, Tim considers the healing of lepers, their social isolation and the reversal in position as Jesus retreats to isolated places. He considers the differences between the ten lepers healing in Luke’s account and the one in Mark’s, and asks for our reflection on taking Jesus for granted.

Following the text of Matthew’s Gospel he leads on to ask what the message is for us today. Matthew’s emphasis is Jesus, King of te Jews. Our challenge is enthroning Jesus as ‘king of our lives’ each day. Herod wasn’t concerned to travel 7 ml to Bethlehem, the Magi travelled may be 1700 ml.
If we enthrone Jesus will we give him our treasure? What is our attitude to our possessions? Will we bring our praise and prayer and finally, dying to self, bring our lives?

As we continue to read carefully through Matthew’s gospel, looking at all that Jesus said and did, we are taking note of who Jesus is, his character and the actions that flow from that. We note too that Jesus is teaching disciples; disciples who will continue to demonstrate that the kingdom of God is among us until that day when Jesus returns.
